Terrific Walking ShoeMay 26, 2009

This is my second pair of these shoes. I have plantar fasciitis and the doctor recommends I purchase good shoes with good support and heel cushioning. These do the trick. As long as I wear them, I have no problems, but if I wear a cheaper shoe, then the pf comes back. It also gives the foot good support. I wear this shoe all the time. I highly recommend it.

Good Fit for Bad FeetJun 26, 2009
By Aunt Holly I also have PF and these shoes are a great fit. My orthotic fits perfectly and the shoes give me just the support I need for my flat feet and chronic PF. My Podiatrist always recommends New Balance brand and I have found it to be true. Also, true to size. So order your regular size.

I love the New Balance 749 Country Walker shoeJan 21, 2010
By JWB I've been wearing this particular brand and style of shoe for several years. I do a lot of walking (I have a chocolate English Labrador.) We walk over all kinds of terrain. I have a rather narrow flat foot. Not narrow enough for the narrow-size to fit without being too snug. My normal shoe size is an 8, but I have been purchasing an 8 1/2. I found that with the size 8, my toes kept banging into the end of the shoe as I walked over uneven terrain. With the 8 1/2, I don't have this problem. The shoe provides great support for my flat arch and has room to place an arch support inside. I usually go through two pairs of these shoes a year...I said I did a lot of walking!
I'm 70, female and wear these shoes, almost, everywhere I go. I purchased these shoes through Amazon.com and the price was considerable lower then when purchased retail.

Comfortable to wearNov 22, 2009
By Brenda I purchased a pair of these in the green color several weeks ago. I like them. The color is a nice soft color of green that goes with a lot of my clothes.
Additionally, I have a long, narrow, "low volume" foot, (size 11B) and it is hard to get shoes that fit. The bulk of women's shoes stop at a size 10, and tend to be geared toward people with wider feet, and a "high volume" through the top of the foot. These are the best fitting shoes for my feet that I have found, and I applaud New Balance for making these less common sizes available for people like me who need them. :)
I would give 5 stars, but the volume of the shoe is still a little too much for me. When I talk of volume, I mean that looking in a side profile of the top of my foot, there is not much upward angle from toes to front of shin. So my feet tend to slip forward in my shoes some, even when laced very firmly. People with a higher volume foot do not have to worry about feet sliding forward in the shoe like I do. The lacing and so forth holds their foot back with no problem. Still, these shoes do a better job than any others I have had.
Lastly, I did remove the original insole that came with the shoe, and put in a high performance insole for my flat feet. I have tried different brands over time, and am trying my first set of New Balance brand insoles. New Balance Stabilizer Men's / Women's Full Length Insoles So far, they are working out nicely with this shoe. They did initially squeak inside the shoe when I would walk, but I cured that by taking them out, and spraying the edges of them and inside of the shoes at the squeak points with some silicone spray.
Since this shoe is working out so well, I am going to order another pair!
UPDATE: I ordered a second pair. I am happy with both pair. I bought the same insoles for them too. Another complaint would be that most all the companies making shoes give you only the most minimal insoles with the shoes when you buy them, and then you have to go out and buy good quality insoles. The good quality insoles should be included with the shoe to begin with. Just another way to get into our billfolds. New Balance isn't doing anything the other companies aren't doing. Thats just the way things are right now.
I would also like to add that in addition to the volume issue I mentioned above, I would also give another star if they had good insoles, and you didn't have to buy a pair to get good ones.

These shoes are a perfect fit for me. I have them a month and I'm wearing them now - it alleviates any pain of my plantar fasciitis. They are also a true size. I rate this shoe a five star. Shopping around the internet, Amazon had the best price and no shipping charge, also a five star.
