5The Energizer Bunny of ShoesNov 25, 2007
By T. Leach "Jr."
For the last five years, part of my Fall ritual is to get my Merrell Winter Mocs out of the closet. Five months later they are returned, having provided almost daily service but somehow unchanged. These shoes are real performers. I do wear mine almost everyday in the cool months - at least on dog walks and garbage runs during the week, and for hours on the weekend. The suede look is appropriate for relaxed "business casual" dress. The shoes are snug and warm, and although I don't know if they are promoted as waterproof, my feet are never wet in them. They slip off and on in a second, and fit like a glove. By the back door, these are my wife and kids' favorites to slip on for a trip out to feed the dog or grab the paper. Every stitch and glued seam has held together over the years, and the gunsmoke suede is seemingly unchanged. I do see that I am wearing the soles through - finally, the excuse I need to buy another pair. One note - on the first day of wearing, each year, my Achille's tendons kill me - then that's it. Also, the construction of these shoes aren't supportive enough for extended day-to-day wear. But for the purpose I described, a convenient, warm, dry, and durable performer, these are the stuff.

5Walking a dog + Merreel Winter Mocs = Happy Dog OwnerMar 09, 2009
By pbarry77
I've worn Merrell Mocs for the past 10+ years. Always a great, comfortable shoe. After giving the winter mocs to my dad for Christmas I quickly bought a pair for myself. Great in the snow - not real warm but perfect for early morning trips to let the dog out so you don't have to mess with shoestrings. I'd pick these shoes over my Northface boots on a snowy midwestern morning any day of the week.

Warm, comfortable, rugged, and extremely convenient for around-town use. Note Merrells tend to run a little small.

3Does not fit my feet, tried multiple sizesDec 14, 2010
By D. Freckleton
I am a big fan of merrell, and have purchased many of their moc-branded shoes for some time now.
Understand that I really wanted to like the shiver mocs. They appeared to be exactly what I wanted and even better then my previous merrell shoes. Rugged soles, waterproof high rubber around the entire shoe, and a very nice, no nonsense look.

What is really strange - and take this with your own discretion - is that they just do not fit right. I am a size 9, and for as long as I can remember buying a size 9 would always result in a perfect fit. These shiver mocs, however, despite being a size 9, were simply way too loose front-to-back and felt like they were literally going to come off. The front to back length felt like it had an extra inch of wiggle room. I wore them around for a several days, with no real change.

I really liked them, though, so I just decided to return them and try one size smaller at a local REI. I tried on the size 8.5, and they did feel better as far as front to back, and thus staying on my feet, but now felt a little snug side to side. I kind of figured they simply needed some "breaking in".

Its been 2 weeks now, and my feet hurt. I can't wear the 8.5, my feet are squeezed too much side to side and become progressively uncomfortable as the day wears on, despite the better front to back length (which frankly, and oddly enough is still just a tad long). Really weird. It's as if the folk who engineered these shoes accadently added an inch or so to the length of all standard shoe sizes. If I wear my usual size, 9, they feel more comfortable - as expected - but are very loose because front to back they're just too long.

I'm no anal shoe perfectionist either. Never really had this much trouble with shoes before. I don't think it's my own feet, because all the size 9 I've bought before have fit perfectly... dunno though. It's a shame because I like these shoes so much otherwise and would have given them 5 stars easy.

Since other people haven't replied with the same problems (oddly, in my opinion), here's what I would suggest. Try / buy these in person at a store where you can actually try them on. Walk around with them on for at least a minute or two and see what you think. If they fit just fine, great! Grab um' and don't think twice. If, on the other hand, you notice obvious problems with the sizes, like I did, you don't have to put up with returning them to amazon. That's the best thing I've learned from all of this - it's always better to try out shoes in person at a store before you buy.

these shoes are comfortable, durable, and extremely water and snowproof. They look equally useful with jeans or a suit
