Workboot of highest caliber, comfort, and fitJan 08, 2012

I bought these (in brown, not tan) for my son last year. He's gotten a bit over 15-mths use out of them before they literally fell apart.
Positives for these boots -
+ Perfect fit, very little break-in time, feel like second skin after a week or two of wearing them
+ 400gm insulation is not bulky and does not sweat you to death in warmer weather - boots breathe really well
+ Durashock insoles / foot-bed are the same as all Wolverine Durashocks... and do not fatigue you after 14-18hrs on the job, walking concrete, steel, or the hiking trail
+ Soles have good grip, even on slick surfaces and resist oil... I think they are also EH rated, too, but not sure.
+ Gore-Tex waterproofing is truly waterproof, even when standing in water 2-3" deep (see below)
Negatives (reason for dropping one star) -
- Metal Gore-Tex tag is back-riveted to interior of boot, thus allowing water to seep around the mounting studs... so waterproofing is only good up to the tag (tags eventually fell out after about 6-months, leaving holes in boots so waterproofing was kinda null at that point)
- Sole is glued and stitched directly to side of foot-bed, not Good-Year repairable welt, and both boots began to separate the sole from upper (around toes first) after about 10-months
- Strings that came with the boots frayed and fell apart after only 3-months... sad, since I've had a pair of Wolverines with ORIGINAL laces for nearly 20-yrs, same goes for my US-issue, Rocky combat boots
- Leather began to fade to grey and look horribly weathered within 6-months... uppers are not smooth leather, they are split (nu-buck) leather and cannot be polished ... only oiled, and they really soak in the leather oil... look good for a couple of days, then back to "weathered look"
Still, considering he wore these boots 6-7 days a week for 15-months while on the job and around the house is a testament to Wolverine... honestly, most people get less than 6-months out of a good pair of real work-boots. Considering these are classified as "hikers", I think they held up pretty good considering the abuse he put them through.
Great Pair of Hiking BootsJan 27, 2011
By Royal H. Smith I received the boots before the date promised. They really are nice looking boots and feel great. At first I was reluctant to order because of the color, but in real life the color is darker than portrayed on the Web. They appear to be well made and they show that. I was a little disappointed to find that they are made in China and not the U S A. The price was right and I like the waterproof and the Durashock traits.
